Kata KAWANUA telah diyakini berasal dari kata WANUA. Karena kata WANUA dalam bahasa Melayu Tua (Proto Melayu), diartikan sebagai wilayah pemukiman. Mungkin karena beberapa ribu tahun yang lalu, bangsa Melayu tua telah tersebar di seluruh wilayah Asia Tenggara hingga ke kepulauan pasifik. Setelah mengalami perkembangan sejarah yang cukup panjang, maka pengertian kata WANUA juga mengalami perkembangan. Tadinya kata WANUA diartikan sebagai wilayah pemukiman, kini berkembang menjadi desa, negeri bahkan dapat diartikan sebagai negara. Sementara dalam bahasa Minahasa, kata WANUA diartikan sebagai negeri atau desa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa istilah WANUA – yang diartikan sebagai tempat pemukiman – sudah digunakan sejak orang Minahasa masih merupakan satu taranak ketika berkediaman di pegunungan Wulur-Mahatus, yang kemudian mereka terbagi menjadi tiga kelompok Taranak, masing-masing (1) Makarua Siouw, (2)Makatelu Pitu, (3)Telu Pasiowan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Karena sistem Taranak melahirkan bentuk penerintahan turun-temurun, maka pada abad ke–17 terjadi suatu persengketaaan antara ketiga taranak tersebut. Persengketaan terjadi karena taranak Makatelu Pitu, mengikat pernikahan dengan "Makarua Siouw", sehingga leluhur MUNTU-UNTU dan MANDEY dari "Makatelu Pitu" muncul sebagai kelompok Taranak yang terkuat dan memegang pemerintahan pada seluruh WANUA – yang waktu itu terdiri dari (1)Tountumaratas, (2)Tountewu, (3)Toumbuluk&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dengan bertambahnya penduduk Minahasa, maka Tountumaratas berkembang menjadi Tounkimbut dan Toumpakewa. Untuk menyatakan kedua kelompok itu satu asal, maka dilahirkan suatu istilah PAKASA'AN yang beraasal dari kata ESA. PAKASAA'AN berarti satu yakni, Toungkimbut di pegunungan dan Toumpakewa di dekat pantai. Lalu istilah Walak dimunculkan kembali. Perkembangan selanjutnya nama walak-walak tua di wilayah Tountemboan berganti nama menjadi walak Kawangkoan Tombasian, Rumoo'ong dan Sonder.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kemudian kelompok masyarakat Tountewo membelah menjadi dua kelompok yakni Tounsea dan Toundano. Menurut Drs. Corneles Manoppo, masyarakat Tondano terbelah lagi menjadi dua yakni (1)Masyarakat yang bermukim di sekitar danau Tondano dan (2)Masyarakat "Toundanau" yang bermukim di wilayah Ratahan dan Tombatu. Masyarakat di sekitar danau Tondano membentuk tiga walak yakni; Tondano Touliang, Tondano Toulimambot dan Kakas-Remboken. Dengan hilangnya istilah Pakasaan Tountewo maka lahirlah istilah Pakasa'an Tonsea dan Pakasa'an Tondano.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pakasa'an Tonsea terdiri dari tiga walak yakni maumbi, kema dan Likupang. Abad 18 Tounsea hanya mengenal satu hukum besar (Mayor) atau "Hukum Mayor", wilayah maumbi, Likupang dan Kema di perintah oleh Hukum kedua, sedangkan Tondano memiliki banyak mayor-mayor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Masyarakat tombuluk sejak jaman Batu Pinawetengan abad ke–7 tetap utuh satu Pakasa'an yang terdiri dari tiga walak yakni, Tombariri, Tomohon dan Sarongsong. Dengan demikian istilah WANUA berkembang menjadi dua pengertian yaitu : (1)Ro'ong atau negeri, (2)Pengertian sempit, artinya NEGERI yang sama denga Ro'ong (desa atau kampung).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jadi, kata WANUA, memiliki dua unsur yaitu (1)Ro'ong atau negeri (2)Taranak atau penduduk. Ro'ong itu sendiri memiliki unsur (a)WALE, artinya rumah dan (b)TANA. Kata TANA dalam bahasa Minahasa punya arti luas yaitu mencakup Talun (hutan), dan Uma (kebun atau Kobong). Kobong terbagi menjadi dua yaitu: "kobong kering" dan "kobong pece" (sawah). Kalau kita amati penggunaan kata WANUA dalam bahasa Minahasa misalnya ada dua orang yang bertempat tiggal di desa yang sama kemudian bertemu di hutan. Si A bertanya pada si B; "Mange Wisa" (mau kemana ?) Kemudian B menjawab: "mange witi uma": (pergi ke kobong), si B balik bertanya pada si A; "Niko Mange wisa" (kamu hendak kemana ?) si A menjawab; "Mange witi Wanua" (mau ke negeri, maksudnya ke kampung dimana ada rumah-rumah penduduk). Contoh lain adalah kata "Mina – Wanua". Kata "Mina" artinya, pernah ada tapi sekarang sudah tidak ada. Maksudnya, tempo dulu di tempat itu ada negeri dan sekarang sudah tidak ada lagi (negeri lama) karena negeri itu telah berpindah ke tempat lain. Kata "Mina Amak" (Amak=Bapak) adalah sebutan pada seseorang lelaki dewasa yang dahulu ada tapi sekarang sudah tidak ada, karena meninggal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kata WANUA yang punya pengertian luas dapat kita lihat pada kalimat "Rondoren um Wanua..." kata WANUA dalam kalimat ini artinya; Negeri–negeri di Minahasa dan tidak berarti hanya satu negeri saja. Maksudnya... melakukan pembangunan di seluruh Minahasa. Jadi sudah termassuk negeri-negeri dari walak-walak dan pakasa'an yang didiami seluruh etnis atau sub-etnis Minahasa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jadi dapat dilihat bahwa pengetian utama dari kata WANUA lebih megarah pada pengertian sebagai wilayah adat dari Pakasa'an (kesatuan sub-etnis) yang sekarang terdiri dari kelompok masyarakat yang mengaku turunan leluhur TOAR &amp; LUMIMU'UT. Turunan dalam arti luas termasuk melalui perkawinan dengan orang luar, Spanyol, Belanda, Ambon, Gorontalo, jawa, Sumatera dan sebagainya. Orang Minahasa boleh mendirikan WANUA diluar Minahasa, tapi orang Tombulu tidak boleh mendirikan negeri tombulu di wilayah Totemboan atau sebaliknya inilah yang dimaksud dengan adat kebiasaaan meletakkan "Watu I Pe-ro'ong" atau batu rumah menjadi negeri yang baru dilakukan oleh tonaas khusus misalnya bergelar MAMANUA (Ma'Wanua=Pediri Negeri) yang tau batas-batas wilayah antara walak yang satu denga walak yang lain, jangan sampai salah tempat hingga terjadi perang antara walak.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Setelah meneliti arti kata WANUA dari berbagai segi, kita teliti arti awalah KA pada kata KAWANUA. Beberapa awala pada kata Ka-rete (rete=dekat) berdekatan rumah,artinya teman tetangga. Ka-Le'os (Le'os=baik), teman berbaik-baikan (kekkasih). Kemudian kata Ka-Leong (leong=bermain) teman bermain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dari ketiga contoh diatas, dapat diprediksi bahwa awalah KA memberi arti teman, jadi, KA-WANUA dapat diartikan sebagai TEMAN SATU NEGERI, SATU RO'ONG, satu kampung. Untuk lebih jelasnya kita ambil contoh melalui syair lagu "Marambak" (naik rumah baru)... "Watu tinuliran umbale Mal'lesok ungkoro' ne Kawanua..." artinya batu tempat mendirikan tiang rumah baru, bersimbolisasi menepis niat jahat dan dengki dari teman satu negeri. Misalnya, batu rumah baru itu di Tombulu bersimbol menjauhkan dengki sesama warga Tombulu satu kampung, dan tidak ditujukan pada kampung atau walak lain misalnya Tondano dan Tonsea.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Demikian juga cerita tua-tua Minahasa dinamakan "sisi'sile ne tou Mahasa" (buku A.L Waworuntu) dan a'ASAREN NE TOU Manhesa" artinya cerita-cerita orang Minahasa. Tidak ditulis "A'asaren ne Kawanua" atau cerita orang Kawanua. Disini terlihat bahwa orang Minahasa di Minahasa tidak menamakan dirinya Kawanua. Orang Minahasa di Minahasa menamakan dirinya "Orang Minahasa" dan bukan "Orang Kawanua" selanjutnya baru diterangkan asal sub – etnisnya seperti, Tondano, Tontemboan, Tombatu dan sebagainya. Bertemu dalam sebuah topik di salah satu forum diskusi online yang membicarakan mengenai perkembangan teknologi komputer di Sulawesi Utara, yang kemudian melahirkan ide untuk menyatukan segenap pemerhati dan/atau insan komputer Manado dan sekitarnya (lebih khusus para &lt;em&gt;overclocker&lt;/em&gt;) dalam sebuah komunitas yang bertujuan  untuk membagi pengetahuan/informasi kepada sesama anggota komunitas. Setelah beberapa kali pembahasan rencana yang dilakukan secara online diambil keputusan untuk melakukan penyusunan &lt;em&gt;draft&lt;/em&gt; komunitas yang akan dilakukan secara &lt;em&gt;offline&lt;/em&gt; melalui sebuah &lt;em&gt;gathering&lt;/em&gt;. &lt;em&gt;Gathering I&lt;/em&gt; kemudian diadakan beberapa hari kemudian (pada akhir bulan November) yang dihadiri oleh beberapa calon anggota berasal dari Manado yang sebelumnya sudah menyatakan akan hadir diantaranya &lt;a href="http://www.pondaag.com"&gt;Ferdinand Pondaag&lt;/a&gt;, &lt;a href="http://www.eroltooy.com"&gt;Erol Tooy&lt;/a&gt;, &lt;a href="http://www.ufxd.com"&gt;Andre Soriton&lt;/a&gt; juga Patrick dan setelah dinilai dirasakan cukup untuk menyusun sebuah &lt;em&gt;draft&lt;/em&gt; komunitas. Dari gathering tersebut dihasilkan beberapa ide cemerlang yang kemudian menjadi &lt;em&gt;core&lt;/em&gt; (inti) perkembangan selanjutnya KOC2, yang beberapa diantaranya adalah penggabungan kata &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; dan &lt;strong&gt;Overclocking&lt;/strong&gt; sebagai nama komunitas dan sebagai awalan akan dibuat sebuah forum diskusi online. &lt;em&gt;Gathering-gathering&lt;/em&gt; selanjutnya pun terus diadakan guna mematangkan dan/atau mengevaluasi semua perencanaan yang sudah dibuat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Muncul pertanyaan kenapa menggunakan kata &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt; dan Overclock? Kata &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt; yang adalah sebutan bagi warga Sulut digunakan sebagai identitas utama bahwa KOC2 dibentuk dari ide &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt; sendiri, di-&lt;em&gt;maintain&lt;/em&gt; oleh &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt; sendiri, dan dipersembahkan bagi &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/page-kawanua.html"&gt;Kawanua&lt;/a&gt;. Sedangkan kata Overclocking merupakan sebuah identitas pelengkap yang juga berperan untuk mengeraskan maksud (spesialisasi) dari KOC2. Overclocking juga digunakan karena merupakan sebuah seni memodifikasi komputer (PC) untuk memperoleh kinerja yang maksimal tanpa memerlukan biaya yang mahal. Isu biaya juga bermanfaat disini karena rata-rata pengguna komputer sering tidak puas dengan kinerja PC-nya sehingga harus rela membuang biaya yang tidak sedikit untuk meng-upgrade PC. Hal ini tidaklah menjadi sebuah keharusan apabila cara pengoptimalan komputer ke tingkat tertinggi diketahui dan dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat umum, serta menjadikan upgrade PC sebagai solusi alternatif. Upgrade PC dengan menggunakan perangkat teknologi terbaru yang lebih maju memang diperlukan, tetapi menjadi tidak mutlak dilakukan apabila sumber daya komputer masih memadai dan bisa untuk dioptimalkan. Trend modifikasi komputer pun menjadi salah satu isu penggunaan kata ini.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Awal bulan Desember 2005 target pertama selesai seiring dengan online-nya forum diskusi online yang bernama &lt;strong&gt;Kawanua Overclocking Forum (KOF)&lt;/strong&gt; yang kemudian disusul dengan dibuatnya &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/portal.html"&gt;portal&lt;/a&gt; &lt;a href="http://www.koc2.com/main.html"&gt;forum&lt;/a&gt;. Berbagai perbaikan dan penambahan fitur dilakukan untuk memaksimalkan kinerja dari forum diskusi online tersebut. Sehingga pada awal bulan Februari 2006 diluncurkanlah versi &lt;em&gt;stable&lt;/em&gt; dari forum diskusi KOF yang kemudian berganti nama menjadi KOC2 setelah memperoleh nama &lt;em&gt;Top Level Domain (TLD)&lt;/em&gt; http://www.koc2.com yang didaftarkan dengan hasil partisipasi awal dari anggota forum.
